Our History
Huntey’s Clubhouse began with a simple act of love. Christine Huntey—affectionately called Chrissy by the original kids and team members—opened her home to care for her children’s preschool friends, helping out fellow parents in the process. Those early days were filled with warmth, laughter, and memories of her own children tiptoeing around sleeping babies in cribs. As more families sought the loving care she provided, Chrissy and her family built a new home with a walkout basement dedicated entirely to the growing in-home child care program.
The impact on the community was undeniable. When the in-home center could no longer keep up with demand, Chris took a leap and built the first official Huntey’s Clubhouse across from Morley Stanwood High School. For years, this was the only Huntey’s Clubhouse location, yet it was a cornerstone of the area—providing quality, accessible, and nurturing child care in a rural community that needed it.
As time went on, Chris took a step back from daily operations to enjoy her own growing family—now a proud grandmother to 14! But her legacy of love, family, and dedication to children’s well-being continues. Her son, Tyler, is carrying forward the mission she started.
Growth continued organically, always led by the needs of the communities Huntey’s serves. When their church in Big Rapids approached Chris and her daughter about utilizing classrooms for a daycare program, Huntey’s Clubhouse Big Rapids was born. As the need grew, the center renovated and relocated to a building and later expanded with a dedicated Preschool and School Age facility adjacent to the main center.
Howard City followed, revitalizing a once-forgotten business center that had housed a community college. This location brought new energy and warmth to the outskirt of town, creating a space where children could learn and grow.
Next, Reed City welcomed Huntey’s Clubhouse when a retiring child care provider wanted to ensure families had a safe and nurturing place to transition. After transforming an old doctor’s office, the center opened in the spring on a beautiful property with mature trees, providing a peaceful environment for children and families.
The most recent expansion brought Hesperia and Newaygo into the Huntey’s Clubhouse family. A fellow child care provider, whose story closely mirrored Chris’s, was ready to retire. Having started her business the same year as Chris and raising the same number of grandchildren, the partnership felt meant to be. These locations were already well-established child care centers, allowing for a seamless transition where children’s routines remained consistent, and families continued receiving quality care.
Our Central Office plays a vital role in supporting all of our centers, ensuring consistency, resources, and guidanceacross locations. As Huntey’s continued to grow, so did our support team, outgrowing our original shared office space—more like a big dining room. In keeping with our tradition to revitalize the communities we serve, we transformed another forgotten building—an old veterinary office in Rogers Heights—into our Central Office.
Today, Huntey’s Clubhouse takes immense pride in serving families and providing meaningful careers for team members. In rural communities where child care options are scarce, we are committed to addressing the child care crisis by offering high-quality care, enriching curriculum, nurturing environments, and nutritious meals to children. The heart of Huntey’s Clubhouse remains the same as when it started—with a passion for family, a love for children, and a commitment to community.
