Consistency between Home & School

Breaking up with “NO”

We have certain phrases we use at our centers and want to share with you.

Children hear the last thing we say when redirecting their behaviors. The word “NO” doesn’t resonate with them. They often feel like they have no say or control in their life and being told “NO” all the time can be stressful.

INSTEAD:

-WALKING FEET

-FEET ON THE FLOOR

-NICE HANDS

-HANDS ARE FOR: BUILDING, HIGH FIVES, HUGS, PAINTING, ETC

OFFER:

Offer an alternative to their undesired behavior.

-We can run outside.

-We can use our hands to build.

-We can climb up the slide.

-We can push the wall.

-We can squeeze a pillow.

It’s important to have consistency between home and school. Positive guidance is an important step in setting boundaries and expectations. ❤️
